gitea software have hard-fork: forgejo It noted the following points (as https://forgejo.org/faq/ https://forgejo.org/compare-to-gitea/):

currently, it can be almost drop-in replacement between two, although already started drifting from v1.21.11 https://forgejo.org/compare-to-gitea/#are-migrations-from-gitea-to-forgejo-possible
release after end-to-end tests
doing security updates as spots vulnerabilities
