Convert the Chat module to work with XMPP. 

This would enable people to log into bigbluebutton chat with their favorite 
XMPP compatible chat client, such as OpenFire, GTalk, Pidgin, etc...

Great idea. Integration with xmpp would let use present and future xmpp 
clients, and some kind of federation in Bbb.

It would be even better to support xmpp/jingle for video-conferencing. But I 
say this as user. I can imagine that if xmpp/jingle clients are not very 
popular (I just know gtalk, empathy/telepathy) is because there must be 
problems in development of libraries.
