new user-specified timeout_sec parameter and property to use for all requests

Thanks for pointing out the need for this feature: I would like to also include timeouts for each individual method along with the default timeout in the constructor, and update the documentation. Rather than ask you to do it, I can just go ahead and implement it in a few minutes right now, so I'll go ahead and close this.
