Hot Thermal Pressure doesn't match powermetrics -s thermal #74

My 13" MacBook Air M2 is currently exporting a 4K video. The thermal pressure reported by sudo powermetrics -s thermal is "Heavy", but "Hot" is reporting Nominal.

Even under extreme CPU loads, I can't seem to get Hot to report anything other than Nominal.

Thanks for your hard work on this application! Even with this issue, it is already extremely helpful.

I have found that the thermal pressure only updates on the initial start of the app

@qhenkart Good observation. Mine is behaving the same way. I am not running macOS 13.5.2.

I'm still seeing this issue on Sonoma 14.1.

Also seeing this same problem

confirm that thermal pressure appears to update only once on each app restart.

this is in addition to the two outputs not matching even once refreshed - in the example above, with heavy thermal pressure after running transcoding for an hour and throttling the whole time, restarting Hot still only changed the thermal pressure from 'nominal' to 'fair'.
