Darwinbuild is a collection of tools that assist compilation of the many projects contained in Darwin, the open source base of Apple's macOS operating system.
Changset 326 introduced by Shantonu Sen fixed this, but the change did't persis it seems. This error is also encountered during an attempt to install darbinbuild-legacy through MacPorts.
FWIW, this failure only happens on Darwin 8.0.1/x86 as downloaded from Apple and installed on a fairly generic PC. It builds fine on a 350MHz iMac running MacOSX 10.4.11.

darwinxref failed to build, as it couldn't find
swap_mach_header_64 swap_segment_command_64 swap_section_64 swap_nlist_64
