To repeat my response to this. Feel as though exposure to "real world" is a necessity.
To that end, so are mistakes. If we attempt to cushion the graduates from making any mistakes there will be no opportunity for real learning. Expect graduates to make lots of mistakes, and for us to provide a safe environment for them to do so.
Agree it's a necessity.
This will need some forward planning with the project teams to coordinate potential tasks for them to work on that are safe for them to learn and make mistakes. While we want it to be ok for them to make mistakes, we also want them to have some realistic things they can achieve so they don't come out of the two weeks feeling they've not achieved/delivered anything of value.
Yeah, we should not burden a team that has committed to a showcase/deadline unexpectedly. I.e. it would make sense to get these conversations going, with the onus on the person responsible for the academy to ensure teams are considering the impact that apprentices will have on their commitments.
David: Is there any risk in them joining a dedicated project team in week 5/6 when they're still quite fresh? What do we see the person leading this doing during those weeks? Are they mentoring them while on the project team?
