Risk creation date: 2/2/2024

Last Modified: 4/24/2024

Risk type: Technical

Risk Approach: Watch

Risk Owner: Doug Kelly

Risk Statement:

If we cannot find an infrared detector that runs at 5 kHz, then we will not be able to correct atmospheric aberrations adequately in the infrared arm of GMagAO-X.

Risk Effects:

Running slower than 5 kHz will result in some additional blurring, reducing the ultimate contrast and science capabilities of the instrument.

Risk Notes/Updates:

4/24/2024 At the GMagAO-X PDR, Laird identified the availability of a Leonardo 512x512 SAPHIRA array as a risk. The current SAPHIRA array is 320x256 and runs at up to 3 kHz frame rate in full frame (up to 200 kHz in window mode). It was released in 2018 after a 3-year development process. It is the sensor used in the CRED-ONE camera -- an autonomous, plug-and-play system fabricated by First Light Imaging. If Leonardo failed to develop the 512x512 SAPHIRA array by the time we need it, we could procure 3 CRED-ONE cameras as a replacement.

Turbulent air motion needs to be measured and corrected by the wavefront sensing system.
