Add ability to easily visually distinguish between two different open Magento sites #182

I manage two different Magento stores within my organization (one store for North America, and a separate but almost identical store for International sales under a different brand name). When looking at the Magento interface -- for example, the Dashboard and sidebar menu under the M logo -- it is difficult to quickly and easily distinguish which store site I have open.

Can you add a way to customize the interface in a way that it is easy to distinguish between two different stores? (If I forget to look at my browser URL bar, I find it easy to accidentally be looking through the wrong Magento store.) Here are a couple of ideas:

  1. You could show the company name (or better yet logo) at the top of the Dashboard, or even small at the top of all pages of the back end interface; perhaps near the search/notification/user icons.

  2. You could give a few colour scheme options for the left-hand sidebar menus, the way WordPress does. If I could set one store to one menu colour theme, and the other store to a different menu colour theme, this would help a lot.

Thanks for your consideration!

Nice idea. It would also help distinguishing dev / production instances.

Just a heads-up: for dev/production instances specifically, demo notice is quite useful.
