Cart item QTY is not getting updated if customer goes directly to checkout

Description (*)

1. Add exactly one product to cart.
2. Go to cart view.
3. Write another value in the QTY field of the item, but don't press on the "refresh cart" button.
4. Go to checkout.
5. Notice that the amount of the item is still one.

Expected behavior (*)

Magento should detect the QTY change and save it before going to the checkout.

Benefits

You don't necessarily have to press the "refresh cart" button.
