Massively improve Magento2 Admin UI / Use of space and screen, reduce # clicks for actions, remove useless headers - focus on data that is really needed by the admin

Description (*)

The Magento 2 admin theme looks a lot more modern, but OMG does it eat your screen pixels. Also some actions just take too many clicks to reach. It would also be great to have a omni-search menu where you enter the menu item you are looking for and it finds it instead of clicking through the whole menu. Why would a customer on the frontend have a search option to find a product and an admin would not have the same to find the page he is looking for?

But most important is use of the screen. For instance: in he order grid you alsmost cant even see the first order above the fold? Only headers, sub headers, whitespaces, warnings, more spacing, and even more spacing

Compare. Assuming the grid itself is the data a user works with. Customers, Products, Orders.

• In M1 we have 22-25% of header data before the grid starts, allowing us to show e.g. 20-24 order rows (assuming we also improve the storename column so it uses 1 row)
• In M2 we have 85% of header data before the grid starts, allowing us to show e.g. 2 order rows

Does that not sound ridiculous assuming M2 should be the better product?

Expected behavior (*)

1. Created a condensed views for admin almost like gmail has 3 options for its view. But in general
   • make sure you can see more and more with the screen size at hand, compare M1 to M2 ....
2. Admin menu now opens on click, why not on hover on desktop? (you would only hover over a menu when you want to open it)
3. Add a simple omni search box to filter through menu items and settings (Settings olny for an admin) ... if you want to go to COntent->Schedule just type in "Sched .... " and see all options that contain this string
4. Menu left bar auto-hides after 10secs, opens on hover nearby ... wins 8% of the screen

Benefits

Work faster. Do more. Show more. Get more work done, faster.

Additional information

Compare the M1 screenie to the M2 version. The admin theme is for WORKING ... not some kind of FASHION SHOW ... ;)

Whitespace is important for user interfaces to feel fluent and digestible. Removing every scrap of whitespace until the layout is totally taut typically results in a display that is dense to the point of losing its hierarchy. Saying "this view fits X more rows" is not necessarily the best metric on which to base admin UX success IMO.

That being said, the whitespace use here – particularly the padding on the header – does feel like it could be lessened quite a bit.

Seem we will have new magento theme in near future 😂 theme-admin-elegant-3. Support for all such cases. Fully Responsive , vertical menu auto hide toggleable The only most useful feature i want to see is search (for fast navigate to correct settings possible suggestions for admin)

@seansan It's not admin theme as you think! It's only one piece of entire picture in backend. Don't think wrong i am very impressive at all they hard work and hyva team behind. We have all tools for make new admin theme! Only need one more push. Its may need times. We can craft new admin from scratch base on tailwind and i believe it is good for build dashboard. TWind is perfect for backside
