Xbee getting bricked by new Tricopter firmware #146

Arducoper NG or ACM?
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Update to new Arducopter "Tri" firmware
2.Turn on APM and with a few seconds to a minute communiction stops, the Xbee
gets bricked "red light of death" comes on, and I have to reprogram the Xbee.

What is the expected output?
Turn on APM, Xbee comms work, and get realtime telemetry data to GCS.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Arducopter 2.0 "TRI", Win7 64bit

Please provide any additional information below.

Also, when the xbee was working with Arducopter 2.0.3, there is/was a huge lag
on the telemetry data to GCS. I saw someone else had alreay flaged the lag in
data as issue, but I am having the same issue. Also it seems like every other
line in the mission planner window, has a Mavlink error, and/or an unknown
message with scrambled data right before the xbee gets bricked.

There are some debugging strings in there perhaps causing the Mavlink errors.

I have gotten to the point of ordering a new Xbee Pro 900. I will try it as
soon as it arrives later this week, and let you know. If the problem persists,
or goes away.

Similar problem on Friday. Tried to upgrade 3 xbee 900's to latest firmwaare
with the ladyada adapter. While trying to update, each showed a message that
com port was not working. All three now have the red light of death. A
fourth one that we did not attempt to update works fine with both of our
ladyada xbee adapters. We tried the unbricking procedure on the 3 bricked ones
but it did not work.

Ok. just now running brand new Xbee 900 Pro, and its all good. It looks like
something in the old Xbee may have been defective.

Thanks for your help.
