I understand these findings as follows:
Base attack power is around 400 for a level 60 orc warrior. Adding some gear this warrior gets another 100 strength, which equates to another 200 attack power.
By using Blood Fury we should see 150 attack power which is 25% of 600 attack power.
Is this correct?
Adding an analysis of an actual vanilla video showing that Blood Fury is supposed to work this way:
Buffs:
- Battle Shout
- Juju Power
- Well Fed
- Mark of the Wild
Debuffs on the boss:
- 5x Sunder
- Faerie Fire
- Gift of Arthas
The two entries at 2:08 and 2:14 prove that he has impale talent (his yellow crits deal 220% instead of 200% damage).
1:34 Bloodthirst 565 1:35 Gains strength of earth 1:40 Gains Blood Fury 1:42 Bloodthirst 713 1:45 Opens char screen 1:49 Bloodthirst 719, gains Crusader from it 1:51 Closes char screen 1:55 Bloodthirst 796 1:56 Loses Blood Fury (AP drops to 1783) 2:01 Bloodthirst 1513 crit 2:04 Loses Crusader (AP drops to 1583) 2:05 Faerie Fire drops from the boss 2:08 Bloodthirst 567 2:14 Bloodthirst 1248 crit 2:20 Bloodthirst 567 2:24 Faerie Fire afflicts the boss 2:25 Gains Crusader (AP rises to 1783) 2:35 Gains Windfury Totem 2:39 Loses Crusader (AP drops to 1583) 2:39 Windfury procs 2:40 Bloodthirst crit 1610 (732 noncrit) 2:56 Bloodthirst procs windfury and deals 612 damage
When he gains Crusader at 1:49, AP goes from 1865 to 2065. This is consistent with the weapon damage displayed on the char screen which goes from 313 to 340, and corresponds to the stated AP values before and after Crusader.
Between 1:55 and 2:01, the boss has 5x sunder, faerie fire and gift of arthas that affect physical damage. We know that boss armor is around 3731, so that corresponds to 3731 - 2250 - 505 = 976 armor remaining, which reduces damage done by a lvl60 character by 15.07%. 2065 AP gives 2065 x 0.45 = 929 Bloodthirst non-crit damage, unmodified by armor. With 15.07% damage reduction, that ends up being 788 (rounded down). By adding 8 damage from gift of Arthas, we arrive at 796, which is the same as the observed value at 1:55.
At 2:01, he loses Blood Fury and deals 1513 crit with Bloodthirst, which corresponds to 1513 / 2.2 = 688 non-crit damage. We know that the damage was reduced by 15.07%, so we divide by that value and subtract 8 damage added by Gift of Arthas to obtain 802 as the base non-crit Bloodthirst damage unmodified by armor. That amounts to 802 / 0.45 = 1783 AP. That tells us that Blood Fury was giving him 2065 - 1783 = 282 attack power. Blood Fury gives 25% AP buff, so that means that it was considering 282 / 0.25 = 1128 attack power. 160 AP is base amount that every naked lvl60 warrior has, before considering any strength, so we are left with 968 AP to explain the source of, which amounts to 484 strength. The text on the character screen that shows strength is blurry but it seems to be roughly that number.
With 1583 AP, Bloodthirst would be doing (1583 0.45 + 8) (1 - 0.1507) = 611 damage. Since it did 732 non-crit damage, the amount unmodified by armor and gift of arthas would be 732 / (1 - 0.1507) - 8 = 854 damage. That corresponds to around 1898 attack power. So Windfury Totem added 1898 - 1583 = 315 attack power. At 2:56, Bloodthirst that procs windfury deals 612 damage, meaning that it does not add AP on the strike that procs the totem.
Orc racial Blood Fury scales with Strength from gear and buffs, but not with flat +Attack Power. Verified by Vilius#7683 (build 30406)
