Agreed.
The current timestamp is however a "work in progress", in Politically Correct, for a "time of transaction"-timestamp, it was never intended as "time of record creation". It gets a default value that is the time of creating the transaction record, but this is a sensible default for the "time of transaction" field. Of course, the "time of transaction" should be easily editable when entering the transaction.
A "latest change"-timestamp is also needed for feeds showing the latest actions, such as the Activity-feed and individual users' Atom feeds.
So I'm rephrasing the title of this issue to: Transactions should have timestamps for "time of transaction" and "latest change".

There is currently one date field, which is when the transaction was entered into the database.
This is a feature request for a date field when the transaction occurred.
