This issue is to separate desktop PCIe here /issues/4 and m.2 variants

Dual Edge TPU to m.2 adapter is possible in following configurations:

Putting all of those into production is not easy, please let me know:

@magic-blue-smoke That is something I have read in a review... somewhere :(. I have 6 Duel Corel TPUs' - When I have 6 of your boards I will put them all in my Frigate machine and let you know if I can use all 12 TPUs' at once!

ozett commented 2 years ago

Multiple TPUs is only of small benefit in frigate right now, you could stay with only one. or you put one AI-Model on each of the TPUs https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate/issues/2281#issuecomment-974038686

mbirrell66 commented 2 years ago

@ozett yea you are right. I tried using cameras (Wyze) that didn't support ONVIF which was a mistake. I thought that my system couldn't handle 6 cameras. Once I replaced them with TP-Link 310s' the connection problems went away. I am still only using 1 TPU of my Dual and waiting to buy magic-blue-smoke's hardware solution.

Any recent news about this Project? I've joined to waiting list, but probably bit too keen sitting down and wait

@Teme-V Current status is:

All of this was done during holiday season and I’m happy with the balance I got between spending time with family and rushing around to get some parts, materials, arranging new lab and getting experience with machines and assembly process

magic-blue-smoke commented 2 years ago

Is it sold out already? All I see is the 'out of stock'.

You’ve signed up for waiting list and should’ve received notification email today. Please use link in the email to purchase adapters.

jbrukardt commented 2 years ago

waitlist the same as pre-order? Would gladly pre-pay if that gets me in the order queue for pci-e 1x adapter. It seems that by the time the email gets out... theyre already gone

magic-blue-smoke commented 2 years ago

I think I was using “pre-order” term a number of times instead of “waitlist” and the latter is more correct. Despite of I’ve invested significant amount of money for parts, equipment and lab, I don’t feel comfortable taking money before having product in my hands. As I produce the boards, I’m sending emails with purchase link, ie 10 boards produced - emails for 10 boards are sent. People using purchase link should not see “out of stock”, however technically it can be if payment failed, but CRM still keeps items booked

So if you’re in waiting list, make sure to check emails regularly including “spam” and “promotions” folders

What email address or domain would this email come from? I’d like to whitelist it so that it doesn’t go to spam.

Still possible to sign up for E adapter? For Wyse 5070 with M.2 E slot, lenght (for me personally) does not matter, but as short as possible.

ShadowKitty42 commented 2 years ago

Any updates on how this is going? Still haven't received my email yet, not sure I've missed it somewhere, but I hope not.

zbrozek commented 2 years ago

I signed up once for personal projecting in... October? I think? And started to have a business interest for my day job and signed up again, but with my corporate email today or yesterday. Haven't heard back in either place, so I'm starting to wonder if there are other good solutions.

@ShadowKitty42 with recent events I have to rebuild some of my processes. There are several good looking options and I'll be announcing updates soon in this thread, please follow: https://github.com/magic-blue-smoke/Dual-Edge-TPU-Adapter/issues/8

@zbrozek all customers that made requests in October had notification letters. From your name, I see your requests from December and form yesterday and this is where line didn't get at the moment. To date, half of requests from from waiting list were fulfilled and I'd need about a month to resume sales with better availability, as well as payment and shipping options

zbrozek commented 2 years ago

@magic-blue-smoke that's great to hear; thank you for the update!

Hi @ryanrhee B+M adapters are expected to be ready on September 30

zbrozek commented 2 years ago

I'm certainly still interested in getting one.

@zbrozek Consider subscribing this thread or following Twitter Due to delayed demand I might not be touching waiting list on this batch

fryc88 commented 2 years ago

Ordering is not a FIFO queue based on the wait-list?

ryanrhee commented 2 years ago

hi @magic-blue-smoke

it's past sept 30 but i haven't seen any updates on twitter or the announcements github issue. do you have any updated information on when the b+m adapters will be available?

magic-blue-smoke commented 2 years ago

@fryc88 Adapters for the host with m.2 A- or E-key is not in manufacturing plan at the moment due to extremely low demand

@zbrozek after production and sales outsourcing the most reliable way to get notified is to subscribe this thread or to follow Twitter

@ryanrhee sorry for inconvenience, I didn't sync my plans with Chinese holidays, my bad. Sales to be started very soon and you won't miss it following that GitHub issue

ryanrhee commented 2 years ago

I went on vacation today and came back to a notification in the github issue! but when I went to order, makerfabs listed it as out of stock :(

are there any estimates on when more will become available?

magic-blue-smoke commented 2 years ago

@ryanrhee I paused B+M adapter sales due to the /issues/28 Sourcing new mounting screw now. Adapters will be re-packaged with new screw and sales resumed soon with notification in /issues/8

Is there a plan with AE active switching adapter?

magic-blue-smoke commented 1 year ago

Is there a plan with AE active switching adapter?

Hi @marcus905 Due to low demand I don't have it in manufacturing plan. Also, AE key adapters are mostly demanded to be used with Jetson Nano. I have Jetson Nano with dev board lying around and clearance between them is not sufficient to fit adapter with Coral TPU Card. If adapter would use lower profile m.2 connector it might fit, however there will be no space left for TPU heat sink. A better option here would be to have another Jetson Nano carrier board designed.

Interested in an E-key variant. Folks purchasing tiny 1L PCs (dell optiplex, hp elitedesk, lenovo tiny, etc) all tend to come with an E-key slot for wifi. I've been able to put a 2230 SSD in one with an adapter and use it as a 1x storage device (not boot drive) - being able to leverage this slot would be great so I can have the m.2 b+m slots operate as storage instead.

jayanty commented 1 year ago

Chiming in to confirm the interest in an E-key variant.

Interested in the E-Key variant as well! I have a Beelink Mini PC - https://a.co/d/2CJw1HM - which has a WiFi/ BT module on a m.2 slot.

cmsj commented 1 year ago

As a happy owner of the B+M, I would now definitely be interested in the A+E variant. Given how powerful Mini PCs have gotten, I think quite a lot of people are starting to use them for home servers. In my case I'm moving all of my Home Assistant and Frigate/Scrypted stuff to one, and they typically have an A+E slot which has lots of space around it, so the slightly longer form factor of an adapter would fit perfectly.

grostim commented 11 months ago

Interested in a m.2 A+E key 2242.
My motherboard (Asus Prime Z490P) has only 1 PCIE bus routed to its m.2 "wifi" port.

The m2 A port is a 2230, but there is plenty of extra room for a 2242. the only issue might be the screw hole located specifically for 2230, but i guess this is something that can be accomodated with some duck tape :) .

FranckG1981 commented 8 months ago

Hi, Interested in an A+E-key variant for a dell optiplex with an A+E-key slot for wifi. Thanks for your work !

cmsj commented 7 months ago

@magic-blue-smoke As we're ~2.5 years on from the first asking of this question, are you still looking for feedback on the other versions? I think there are a few of us who are keen to know if an A+E variant is possible :)

emiroglu commented 7 months ago

A+E seems interesting to me, too

What about a B+M version in 2242 or 2230 size? It would probably increase the compatibility with many systems

Szewcson commented 6 months ago

Interested in A+E. I want to use it in my HP t730 thin client. Clearance is not a problem, but if it can be screwed somehow to original mount hole it wille be great.

It looks like there is growing interest in A+E adapter since many people start to use thin clients for Home Asistant and they want to add frigate with coral to this devices.

magic-blue-smoke commented 6 months ago

@emiroglu @Szewcson keeping 2230 footprint would require having stack of three boards: main board with PCIe switch, m.2 connector board and TPU card itself. If this sounds fine in terms of overall height, I can try to see how it works

emiroglu commented 6 months ago

@magic-blue-smoke and would that be an A+E or B+M Key? Would that also work with a Raspberry Pi 5?

In my case either of the 2242 or 2230 sizes would be fine for a B+M Key. A+E in 2230 format would also work. Height is not a problem. 2280 is just too long to fit on all the boards.

emiroglu commented 6 months ago

@magic-blue-smoke do you not produce this one any more?

It's fine (everything that can be mounted instead of 2230 wifi card is ok for me, there us some space in all dimensions since it is quite large thin client - https://images.app.goo.gl/U42AvYZ3hdg3UDK56) but isn't it possible to use taller connector and two screws?

Szewcson commented 6 months ago

Or are you thinking about such mounting board: https://www.amazon.com/MECCANIXITY-Adapter-Multipurpose-Extension-Computer/dp/B0CM29MS1R

It is also fully acceptable by me, but if such a board will be included in a kit, it will be the best option.
