The main advantage of this is that GitHub renders the Markdown to HTML, which makes the repository web page more accessible and also lets us linkify the mentions of local files such as COPYING, NEWS, INSTALL and share/initialization/sample. I also took the liberty of interlinking the English and Japanese READMEs.
