Hi Bruce
did you try the zigGis installer or you just downloaded the code?
The error is strange, you are missing the log4net.dll that is both included in
the
installer and in the source code.
You may try to install the last release, zigGIS 1.1.1
Let me know,
Paolo

I did an uninstall and installed the latest ziggis11.zip. I also changes the
configuration files as per the home page. Now the error is a simple message
box
stating:
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Any help would be appreciated.

Bruce
did you check if you have .NET 2.0 Framework installed and ArcObjects
assemblies in
the GAC?
let me know

1) when do the error appears? Just when you press the zigGis button or later?
2) are you sure that you have the ArcObjects in the assemblies? You may check
this
article explaining how tho check theese things, unluckly esri made the process
of
installing the .NET stuff fairly difficult:
http://www.paolocorti.net/public/wordpress/index.php/2007/02/14/installing-ziggi
s-11-for-connecting-arcmap-to-postgis-layers/
3) could you try to run zigGis in debug mode? You just need to set the
configfile
parameter to a path on your local drive
my main guess is that you lack ArcObjects assemblies in the GAC, many people is
having this problem, and this is - again - a problem from the Esri ArcGIS
Desktop
installer.
We don't want to redistribuite the ArcObjects assemblies, but want to use the
PIA.
Bruce, feel free to Istant Message with me at pcorti (gmail).

The error appears after I fill in the menu with the configuration file and
specify a table.
I have all the entries for ArcObjects in the c:\windoes\assembly directory.
What do I need to add to the .zig file to run in debug mode?
Thanks

to enable debug mode just edit the zig file and set a valid path to the config
parameter:
ie: configfile = C:\Program Files\Pulp\Ziggis\logging.config
then open the logging.config file (you should find it, if you use default
settings at
the installer, under C:\Program Files\Pulp\ZigGis).
Edit the logging.config file and change (if you wish) the C:\\log\\debug.log to
the
desired path. You need to change this path in 2 different places. Or, just
create a
log folder under c and you are ok).
You should also check if the installer installed all the necessary files. This
are
the files that you should find under ziggis installation path:
11/16/2006 07:21p 147 ArcMap.exe.config
12/21/2006 04:01p 676 example.zig
12/21/2006 01:07p 15,424 license.txt
12/21/2006 01:05p 270,336 log4net.dll
12/21/2006 03:53p 1,256 logging.config
08/26/2005 10:59p 255,488 Mono.Security.dll
12/21/2006 01:05p 69,632 Nini.dll
12/21/2006 01:03p 303,104 Npgsql.dll
02/26/2007 07:01p 0 out.txt
02/21/2007 11:21a 4,051 readme.txt
02/21/2007 11:21a 122,880 ZigGis.dll
02/26/2007 06:56p 2,012 ZigGis.InstallState
02/21/2007 11:21a 19,036 ZigGis.tlb
Finally it is still possible that ArcGis is configured for using .NET 1.0 (if
you
installed 2.0 framework after installing ArcObject assemblies and at that time
there
was only 1.0 framework). In that case just copy the
In that case you should copy the ArcMap.exe.config file (included at the
installation
path) under the bin folder of ArcGis.
Let me know if this solved - hopefully - the issue.
Good luck!

by the way, if you enable debug mode don't forget to post the log file after
getting
the error here, so I can investigate.
But before doing anything else, try the last thing I suggested (copying the
ArcMap.exe.config file in the bin folder of ArcGis) maybe - I strongly suspect
now -
is your case.

No change after a reinstall. No log file is created.
I installed ArcGIS in c:\ArcGIS instead of the default. Could this be an issue?

No nothing worked even after a reinstall. I was wondering if my installation
directory of c:/ArcGIS instead of the c:/Program Files/ArcGIS could be a
problem. Is
this hard coded into zigGIS? Otherwise I will wait until I update to 9.1

No nothing is hard coded.
Bruce, I thought you were using 9.1. If you are using 9.0 don't forget to
install
service pack 3, otherwise it won't work.
Let me know.

Bruce
can you send me one of your PostGIS layers?
I only need the table, and 4-5 records, just to test...

Success!
I just downloaded 1.2 and uninstalled the old version. I used all the defaults
and
carefully redid the configuration file. I was missing the [connection] line -
probably from an earlier version.
