WHM 4.4.0 hangs on authentication, Debian #362

Tried with SB 9.0 and Peruse - appears to have authenticated in the browser but WHM hangs on "Waiting for Authentication". It works on Fedora so prob something Debian specific. When starting WHM I get this warning in the terminal - not sure if relevant.

/usr/bin/xdg-open: 709: /usr/bin/xdg-open: : Permission denied

Tried again on a different install and it worked
