The package defines the macros \recto and \verso, but since there are manuscripts with multiple columns (2 are common, 3 occur sometimes) that one may want to refer to as such (ra, rb, rc, …, va, vb, vc, …), it might be useful to define them in such a way that \recto{a} extends to e.g. \textsuperscript{ra}.
