List of Clouds that do not block port 25 for the README #2221

Open kiikoh opened 1 year ago

I would love to set up mailinabox but I've tried a to use a couple of clouds now and they all seem to block port 25.

I think it would be great if there was a list that had a list of cloud providers that do not block port 25... maybe something like this

Port 25 Blocked

Port 25 Disabled by default, but can be enabled through support

Port 25 Allowed

I think a markdown file like this that is linked to the readme would be very helpful to people trying to setup. Building on that if the list was a table instead and included info like monthly costs to run the minimum spec version of mailinabox would be interesting, including forever free tier offers.

My ultimate request would be some way to get around port 25 being blocked, I think I read something online about using VPNs to get around this limitation? I think I've read in issues that

I think this is a good idea but we should stipulate that only direct experience counts. Scraping FAQs can be a long way from reality.

To that end:

Port 25 Disabled by default, but can be enabled through support VULTR

AussieTerror commented 1 year ago

Same as VULTR, Servarica will also allow port 25 with a support request and there VPS's are working fine with MIAB

Scaleway has a default no SMTP security role attached to all new VPSs but you can change it however you want.

Amazon Web Services Unblocks if you raise a ticket

Linode blocks port 25, 465, and 587 by default. You can ask them to be unblock after you configured DNS and provide them some information (see link). Hetzner blocks ports 25 and 465 by default. You can ask them to unblock after you've paid your first invoice.

I'm afraid they do not. Atleast not on every request. I have tried twice and they did not remove the port 25 block.

Oracle Cloud

Oracle Cloud does now block port 25 by default*, but one can open a request to get it unblocked. We just did this. It was a nightmare and took us almost two full months of talking to various people at Oracle, but they did eventually unblock port 25. Considering that the service is free, I am definitely not complaining.

* One minor note is that Oracle does not block Google's SMTP server for some reason. The Mail in a Box installation scripts and status page only checks Google's server to see if port 25 is blocked, so they both will erroneously say it works.
