Site redesign #20

Open DEGoodmanWilson opened 4 years ago

DEGoodmanWilson commented 4 years ago

The website is mostly geared towards being a blog. It's not a blog. The site needs to be redesigned to support how we actually use it: To make occasional announcements, and to share the event reports and other long-form (PDF) content we create.

Where can we begin with this? do you already have an idea on your mind on what content we can display on the website?

I can try to contact the folks at @opensourcedesign to see if we can get some help for this.

I can make an initial draft and publish it on zeplin or something. If we get an actual designer to join that would be great, but I'll probably manage prototyping.

Things I'd like to push for:

Hi everybody, good to see things moving! I can mostly help with content, when we get to that stage. Also happy to comment on ideas generally.

I like @simskij 's starting point. For content to focus on, let's use the Berlin 2019 report and an as-yet-unwritten call for volunteers.

I like the idea of Twitter integration., For now, we could focus on content shared via @maintainerati ? And maybe expand to include hashtags or @-mentions

Definitely onboard with @simskij's idea!

Getting some time on my hands for this has taken way longer than I expected. Just today, I created a branch with a simple storybook and set up a palette for the new site based on the colors used on the berlin report cover.

So, waiting on me obviously won't work as I've not had time to do anything over a year now. 😅 If someone else wants to pick up the design work - feel free. I'll help as much as time allows with the actual code once we reach that stage.
