Lke Rivendell and PlayOutONe have done in their (cue) editor. You need a way to quickly record and trim top/tail something, set cues, flight dates etc (editing is desirable long term, but not essential at this point).
Your cue editor is generally great, and is mainly missing a record button!

What exactly would the Record button do? Record an entirely new item?

If the asset contains no pr-existing audio, then yes it starts a new recording, with the audio filename defaulting to asset ID. i.e. 52699.wav.

If there is preexisting audio on the asset, it gives you a warning box i.e. 'audio exists for asset xxx, recorded on xx July 215. Are you sure you want to over write?. If you select yes, it commences recording and replaces the pre-existing audio, and resets all markers, run dates etc. When recording is stopped, it scans & R128 non destructively normalises the audio, and auto audio threshold places the start/end markers.
