This is a neat effect and I'm fine with including it but I'd rather have it as an option rather than replacing the existing effect. A preferences dialog should be added to the extension with a way to select between the two.
yeah, that would be a nice way to have multiple choices. that config ui could also be used for brightness settings (see #1) if that is ever implemented.
however, my gnome shell extension development skills are extremely limited. :)
that said, the effect i propose is actually the one that gnome itself also offers as a a11y feature, so one could argue (and in fact i do) that it should be the default. colour inversion is probably also useful to some, but i gave both a fair try at night and can only conclude that brightness inversion is clearly the better option usability-wise. yay for no more painful eyes. :)
