I'd say: yes. I've even seen "normal peer-reviewers" urge some authors to claim a badge, so why not us?
So we have an agreement. It can't hurt to make the badges more known. @rlifset in case of 19-JIE-6164, it may be too late...?

What MS are you discussing? If the authors have not requested a data badge, but you think they would qualify, I don’t see any problem in doing this. I propose that this recommendation be passed to the AE managing the submission and that the recommendation be included in the AE’s decision letter. Note that if the authors need to do some additional work to qualify for the badge, you need to make that clear to the AE. You and the AE will need to be contact to when the revised data documentation is received.

I recently did my first review of the minimum requirements in an article. The authors did a great job and I only recommended very few changes to the AE. In fact the documentation was so good, it could probably have received a data badge right away. So I started wondering if we should notify authors if they are close to receiving a badge.
What do you think?
