As you can see in this image here (which is the graph of tan(2 - x) I think), the asymptotes for the function appear as straight vertical lines. This doesn't happen for any other function in the arithmetic cycle (except for maybe tan(2/x) but there's a lot going on in that one so it's hard to tell).
