Ugly icon #288

It has bugged me for a while that the icon for Replicator G is so ugly, as an icon it's self it is great, but the implementation leaves it looking like a rather ugly duckling in my Dock:

I have redrawn the logo in three different ways, the first is a exact copy of the current logo but redraw in vector as and geometrically accurate so that it is symmetrical:

Then I tried just changing up the colour a little to make it a bit warmer:

But then I did a bit of playing and came up with this which makes it a little fresher:

What do people think, I love Replicator G's current logo but the application icon could be better if the background was transparent at the very least, but how about a fresher look?

I love it! I wish we were going to make another release of ReplicatorG, so that we could use this.

unknowndomain commented 11 years ago

Perhaps I should submit it else where? I know others like RepRap and Ultimaker still use it but I thought they still contributed on this repo?

Last commit in this repo is from January. I can try to pull in your changes after work today, and maybe someone else will pull them into other forks of repg.

Ill try later.

@tedbrandston I want to make a documents icon for Mac OS X but I can't see where the info.plist file is.

tedbrandston commented 11 years ago

I don't think there is one? I'm not familiar with what's necessary for this stuff on mac.

I believe the jarbundler stuff takes care of that for you; see: https://github.com/makerbot/ReplicatorG/blob/master/build.xml#L183 You want to edit the documenttype tags.
