Graffiti Monitor #1

Open derrickoswald opened 4 years ago

derrickoswald commented 4 years ago

How do we address the blight of urban defacement by graffiti, that costs millions to remove, only to be tagged again some days later?

graffiti

This project would create a low cost monitor for remote graffiti prone areas that would notify authorities when graffiti activity is taking place and optionally photograph perpetrators in the act.

graffiti honeypot idea

A continuously powered motion sensor monitors an isolated area where there would normally be no traffic. When it detects a motion event it powers up a microprocessor equipped with a LoRaWan radio module. If the event lasts a preset threshold duration the microprocessor notifies the data collection hub and optionally takes photographs that are stored on a local SD card and collected at a later time.

Just a heads up, but photographing people without their consent in Switzerland is surely illegal, regardless of their activities.

@philshem That's certainly a discussion we can have. Thanks for the helpful links.

I was thinking more along the lines of an SBB rail yard, Werkhof, or other private property where an "videoüberwachung" sign or similar has been posted. Because you have entered the area you have given your consent. Clearly, nobody has ever asked me for my consent on ÖV or in public spaces where these signs are posted. So it must be legal, otherwise each of them would be liable to prosecution under Datenschutz laws.
