Potential Journals #2

Thinking of three sorts of journals to apply to: 1. agro/eco interdiscpinary (ideal i think), 2. arid systems (because cacti focus), and 3. plant sciences/botany (to reach broader audience). I've tried to collect a wide range of impact factors and to include those that would accept lit reviews and communications (but sometimes only the former).

  1. Agronomy for Sustainable Development: Interdisciplinary, OA option, but only would publish a lit review, IF=4.101

  2. Journal of Arid Environments: More ecology but also includes agronomy as a relevant topic, has review and "think note" (1-page editorial type paper), OA paid option, Elsevier, IF=1.825

3. Journal of Applied Ecology: Review, Commentary, & Practitioner's Perspective (short, general audience, <20 citations, where the field should be going) types of pubs. PP is exactly what ours would be. British Ecology Society. IF=5.87

  1. Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment: Review, Short Communications, or Opinion Paper. Elsevier. IF=4.099.

  2. Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment: Focus on interdisciplinary articles. Reviews, Research Communications, and Special Columns. Wiley. IF=10.93 (ambitious)

  3. Plant Biology: Very broad and interdisciplinary. Reviews and "hot topics" under "Acute Views" which is a little unusual but I think we fit. Wiley. IF=2.156

  4. Planta: Reviews and Short Communications, the latter needs to "answer a specific question". Springer, Hybrid OA. IF=3.347

8. Frontiers in Plant Science: Broad and plant focused. Review, Mini Review, and Perspectives. IF=4.298

I think Journal of Applied Ecology is my favorite based on the Practitioner's Perspective type of article they offer. But I'm a little worried that even though the article we want to write fits the goal of that paper type, I'm not sure we count as practitioners. After that, I do like the idea of a more plant science journal so that it can reach both ag and eco scientists, so Plant Biology "hot topics" or Frontiers in Plant Sciences "Mini Review" or "Perspectives" might be good for that.
