I just wanted to inform you that I have prepared some packages for gutsy.
They are available online at https://launchpad.net/~r0lf/+archive

yes, you are right. But I did not change the description provided from
upstream.
There are lots of those little problems with the debian packaging information.
Let's
see if anybody picks up on the changes I already made in
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12089483/subdownloader_1.2.9-ubuntu1.diff.gz

-> bug 24
-> bug 25

for example.

It seems, the whole debian packaging information was c&p'ed from another
package and
tweaked just enough to get things working on the computer of the one doing the
tweaking. This is a very valid approach to get things started and improve
later.

sethts told me about the use of bitrock.com to generate automatically our
installer
for .deb , .rpm , .exe , etc

What do you think?

Too bad the google bug tracker sucks in that it does not provide a history of
changes
to an issue, because this is not about Ubuntu 08.10 (which does not exist), but
about
providing good deb packages in general. This change should be reverted.

It also very much defeats the purpose to follow "one issue - one report" to
break
down and document the works that has been done and that still needs to be done
only
to have them marked as dupes.

subdownloader is a great idea. The code quality currently leaves room for
improvement. I am skeptical this can be achieved with the attitude I see.

And no, I am not convinced bitrock is really the way to go.

Hello.

First,
 - "Ubuntu 8.10 (which does not exist)" : Yes it does, it's already under
development. Check: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IntrepidReleaseSchedule

About the packaging: we don't have any package mantainer yet, we are to busy
trying
to get things ready for the new 2.0 version release. Any help on packaging is
greatly
appreciated, that's why we turn our eyes to bitrock's app, not because it is the
"best" choice.

Cheers

The bitrock is just a consideration because we don't have package mantainers.

We have been trying to move into Launchpad, project is created there also, but
they
seem to have problems by importing the SVN code into their Bazaar, and also the
.po
translation files. Probably Google code is temporary, it sucks sometimes I
recognizes.

The code quality, we try our best, the attitute you mention about of course can
be
improved, starting with the admin :-)

Best Regards.

well, I'd like to see the project move to LP, of course, since Ubuntu is what I
use.
I'd be willing to try and improve packaging, the work I already did should testify
to that. Here's what we should do.

1) In the future you release tar-balls from "svn export" and not just by simply
copying the checkout directory. That leaves us with source clean from .svn
directories.
2) If possible, you create a separate branch for maintaining packaging
information
and give me rw access to it. It is good practice to keep packaging information
and
the code itself separate. Once things stabilize, I can try and make a push for
inclusion in debian (and thus Intrepid)

What problems do you have with moving over to LP? The folks there are usually
quite
helpful. Talking to them in IRC would be an option.

bzr-svn should do the job (if not, file a bug)

Hi, can you help us to move to LP? Give me LP username to add you inside.

The project is https://launchpad.net/subdownloader
The main issue we were having was importing the SVN trunk into their Bazaar
repository, I was stuck there because their automatic import failed.

Anyway I wanted to finish all the Google Code issues before we moved to LP,
that's
why today I got excited and i Invalidated yours :-), sorry if that freaked you
out.
