Chart tab updating in browser but charts do not render

Using the "drinksbycountry" data-set, in google colab, the link to the html page is created and opens.
When the charts tab is selected, a new window opens. When the filters are selected, the charts do not render and the browser tab show perpetual "Updating". Thank you! RHS

Hi,

same issue here. Google Colab is not showing any of the plots in the Charts Tab. It doesn't matter the dataset. You can reproduce the error with this code:

import dtale
import dtale.app as dtale_app

dtale_app.USE_COLAB = True
dtale.show(pd.DataFrame([1,2,3]))

All other features and functionality seems to work properly. It is just the Chart tab that keeps updating and does not render the plot.

Any hints are appreciated. yby.

Apologies, everyone. I have done some digging and I'm starting to see the error. Looks like for some reason in Google Colab when dash tries to send a dash.execptions.PreventUpdate execption to the frontend it is not returning it as an HTTP code 204. Thus causing JSON serialization errors.

This does not happen when you run D-Tale locally. Not exactly sure why. I'm going to try some things like creating my own error handler to force a 204. Will keep you posted.

@sockthem @Himajinx @yerbby @RSiderits I have just released a new version of D-Tale to testpypi which should solve this problem, but I wanted everyone to test it and let me know if any weird behavior arose. In order to use the new version please run the following command in your notebooks:

!pip install -i https://test.pypi.org/simple dtale==2.10.2

@aschonfeld, thank you for your amazing work. I have been able to install the new version and check that charts are now working correctly!!!!

To get it working with the current Colab build, I had a few dependence issues:

On Colab, installing dtale with: !pip install -i https://test.pypi.org/simple dtale==2.10.2 will break with an error several times because it miss some library or it's not the right version. Here is the list of requirements that finally worked for me:
```
!pip install dash
!pip install matplotlib==3.6.0
!pip install squarify
!pip install dash-colorscales
!pip install kaleido
```
After installing dtale successfully, running dtale.show will raise an error related to statmodels, so finally you have to update it as well: !pip install statsmodels --upgrade

After that, charts show correctly on latest Colab/Chrome for W11. Thanks again for your support.

@yerbby I did notice the dependency issue on Colab. Unfortunately I believe that is just a Colab issue. I just created a fresh python3.8 virtual environment using pyenv and then ran pip install dtale and everything installed without issue and D-Tale ran with no issues.

So I'm not sure if Colab needs to change its default packages that get installed for new notebooks or something like that.

As for this issue, glad that the charts are working again for you. Huge weight off my mind. I'll let you know when I publish an official release.
