Doesn't that require nesting? Not all DGGS have nested hierarchies (child cells having exactly one parent), maybe add a few words about the role of nested hierarchies in this context

Yes, it does require nesting. We only consider those DGGSs that have a nested cell refinement strategy in this paper. This is necessary for our technique, which depends on implied or automatic spatial partitioning using a parent cell ID. I have added a parenthetical comment establishing that we do not consider DGGSs that do not have nested hierarchies.
