I tried a patch to configure lunr for French, before seeing your i18n branch.
I did exactly the same than the changes in search-index-resource.rb file.
I would just suggest to add @language = options[:language] in the initializer and use it bellow to make the option available in Middleman's config.rb.
Do you plan to merge this branch in next version of middleman-search?
