Make adding multiple dockbar icons less complicated #48

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Currently, to add multiple icons in the dockbar, I have to open the drawer,
open the dockbar, place icon on dockbar from drawer, close the dockbar, open
the drawer again, open the dockbar again, place another icon on dockbar from
drawer, etc..

To enhance this, I have two alternatives:
1) Don't close the drawer if dockbar is opened. This way, we won't need to
close and reopen the dockbar everytime. You'll have to close the dockbar if you
want to add icons to the homescreen. Make this optional to avoid protests. :P

2) Add something on top of the dockbar to launch the drawer, maybe in place of
the recycle bin, but not auto-hidden. This way, we can still launch the drawer
without having to close the dockbar. However, you'll need to make the launcher
as beautiful as possible. I'm not sure it will be pretty to add something
there. Maybe you can make this optional too.

3) Add a "Add this catalog in dockbar" which allows to choose a catalog from
where all the apps are added to dockbar.

So I just tested this and on the dockbar (The pull-up bar) if you have it open
the dockbar doesn't close when dragging things from the drawer into it.

@JAguirre1231: The one that is closed is the drawer, not the dockbar. The
problem is, if you want to add more than 1 icons to the dockbar, you have to do
a lot of closing and reopening.

1st iteration: open drawer, open dockbar, add icons (drawer closed)
2nd iteration: close dockbar, open drawer, reopen dockbar, add icons (drawer
closed)
etc..

The 1st alternative I gave is to not close the drawer, but with this choice
implemented, if you want to add icons to the homescreen, you'll have to make
sure the dockbar is closed.

The 2nd alternative I gave is to give the ability to reopen the drawer without
having to close the dockbar thus decreasing the steps needed (no need to close
and reopen the dockbar just to open the drawer again).

OOooh, I <3 this idea!

Issue 10 talks about adding custom notifications and icons (I think) to the
dock (main dock with action buttons and app drawer?) -- I'm not fond of that,
but I guess it could work -- I was thinking more for the secondary dockbar,
which you swipe up to reveal. This is similar to Home++, which as well as
shortcuts, displays the time and other notification icons normally seen in the
status bar (See attached.) You can even tap on these to see or toggle
settings. E.g., I remember the wireless icon being operable.

I'd love to see custom shortcuts/functions available for the dockbar, such as a
shortcut to launch the app drawer. This would allow you to view the dockbar,
then launch the app drawer at the same time and drag icons into position
(assuming appropriate similar option to ADW Settings > UI Settings > Closing
folder is disabled? I don't know what that option does, it doesn't seem to
work for me with app filter applied?)

The wireless icon is not visible in the above screenshot (until enabled).

I see on mine, with WiFi enabled, the WiFi icon goes to Wi-Fi settings.
Bluetooth icon goes to Bluetooth settings. The sound icon enables silent mode,
vibrate only, then returns to normal. The battery icon displays battery usage.
For some reason, I'm not showing the 3G/bars. I don't have my data cable with
me to test the USB icon (guessing a dialog about USB sharing.)

Perhaps I should make a feature request about these items....

Oh, and for the curious, Calendar and clock are launched when tapping date and
time, respectively.

a13x.ch4ndr4,

I see issue 186, Add Activity for Custom Shortcuts: Open App Drawer,
specifically suggests to be able to use custom shortcut for app drawer. (Are
starred items seen as higher priority ratings/votes from users?) As described,
this was an option in Home++ Power Strip.

The Power Strip was a very nice implementation, similar to the ADW dockbar, but
it was not able to dock additional apps/shortcuts and you were stuck with the
white icons.

just found out that both of my suggestions are already implemented in 1.2.0.. :)
the 1st one is implemented nicely although without options to disable, and the
2nd one is considered implemented as the result of issue 186 fixed. hmm.. now
how do I notify someone to mark this issue as fixed? :P

*off to twitter to notify ander himself*
