Power Point Export Version of Visual Not Rending Properly #21

Open jgreene2014 opened 6 years ago

Good Afternoon, First off, great visual, super useful and easy to use. I've got this implemented in one of my reports and when I export the report to Power Point the calendar visual shrinks itself down to a very small and unusable size. I've attached two screen grabs for some visual proof. I've also tried to expand the calendar in Power Point and it's not working. I took a look at the settings in the Power BI client and the scaling there looks correct. Thanks, Jonathan

Hi @jgreene2014, First- thanks for using my calendar visual and for reaching out! Second- Apologies for the delayed response. Third- I must admit, I'm not seeing an option to export to PowerPoint. Can you describe the steps you're following to export the report? Lastly- does your report contain any other custom visuals? If so, do they display as expected or are they also sized incorrectly? If not, could you test this out by placing a different custom visual on your report and exporting it to PowerPoint? Thanks!

Hi Manny, When you're using PowerBI, there is Power BI desktop client and then the Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com). When you upload reports into the Power BI service, there is an option to export to Power Point. Here is a link to some MS docs on how to export < https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-publish-to-powerpoint>. Thanks for getting back to me, no worries on the delayed response from my end. Appreciate all the work you are doing to enhance the tool with useful visuals. Please let me know if you've got any additional questions.

Ok, well 1- I've been able to reproduce the problem but haven't yet come up with a reliable cause for the behavior nor solution. Below is a series of screenshots showing it not working as well is it working. Some of my findings include:

Hopefully some of this will at least provide a workaround option for you. I will continue to investigate more concrete solutions.

I should also note that this export to PowerPoint feature is in Preview so it is actively being worked on by Microsoft so the functionality may fluctuate until it is stable.

image Resized the visual to the right to be the same size as the calendar

image Mimicking your report layout reproduces the issue (when report page is the first page

So weird that if you move it to the 2nd page it scales correctly. Thanks for all your help.

  • If the visual is on the first report page, then the strange sizing issue occurs.
  • In some situations, sizing elements next to the visual to be the same height causes the issue to go away and it is sized as expected.
  • In some situations, if the visual is on a different page from the first report page, then the issue goes away and it is sized as expected.

Hopefully some of this will at least provide a workaround option for you. I will continue to investigate more concrete solutions.
