Pip fixes #219

@lgarrison I am confused why we still have the pip_fixes and the fix_py2 branches lying around. I thought we had merged all the changes in, and then deleted the branches.

Opening this PR, and checking now - seems that we have indeed merged all the changes. Is it okay if I delete the branch?

GitHub was very helpful that the fix_py2 branch was ready to be deleted - so I went ahead and deleted that branch

Yep, fine to delete this branch. I think the only "unmerged commit" is probably the merge commit just now.
