Investigate the performance of pcolor-type & imshow plots in matplotlib.

Something like and SQW dataset from a small (MARI) and a large (ARCS?) instrument would be a good test case.
Hard numbers for performance are not required but the same level of interactivity as the current plots should be a minimum.
