Dear user,

sorry for difficulties. This is a known seldom appearing behavior but we do not
know the source of it. Repeating “PlanetUpdateDownloader completed” message
is a signature of it.Normally, restarting the software works around. Please try
once more (do not wait 5 hours, of course). If repeating
“PlanetUpdateDownloader completed” appears, restart the software. If
several restarts will not help and behavior of the software will not change,
please report new issue at osm2garmin.googlecode.com.

Dear Mr Mantlik,

The log file I sent was created using the process you had identified.

For some reason no information is getting written to the log file after the
program runs for a minute or two.

I let the program run again for 5 hours today (stuck at 25% Overall Progress).
The attached jpg shows what is displayed when the program heaches the "hang
point" (only takes a minute or 2 of running)

While it sits at 25% Overall Progress it keeps repeating the following in the
"Output" area near the bottom of the program window.

"PlanetUpdateDownloader completed." This line get regenerated about every 1
second.

I have attached another copy of the log after 5 hours of run.

Please note that when I close the program (either after 2 minutes or 5 hours)
it warns me "Maps processing is running. Do you really want to cancel it?"
but yet no progress ever happens past the 25%.

Thank You.

CJ

Dear user,

the log you sent to me is useless because you only started the software and
closed it again. You have to start the software, run the processing, wait until
it fails and exit. Afterwards you will find log files as described in my last
e-mail and you can send them for assessment.

Hello Mr Manltlik,

Please see attached log file from
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\osm2garmin\dev\var\log

There is no other message.log file created in the (working) maps folder, or
anywhere on my entire hard drive (confirmed by search).

Thank You

CJ

Dear user,

all settings you are reporting look OK. Please send me both log files after
processing has failed:

messages.log from your working directory (directory where maps folder resides)

messages.log from user directory which is located somewhere here:

c:/users/<your_windows_username>/AppData/Roaming/.osm2garmin/dev/var/log

for assessment.

Please note that anytime you start the software these logs are overwritten.

Dear Mr Manlik
Thanks for the replay email.

A) The config is settting in my file etc/osm2garmin.cnf says:

default_options="--branding osm2garmin -J-Xms256m -J-Xmx2000m
-J-XX:PermSize=64M -J-XX:MaxPermSize=256m"

which seems to agree with the configuration you have recommended.

B) Even though the "about" information in the Osm2garmin program I have
installed says version 1.0 the program was installed using the file:

Osm2garminGUI-1.1-SNAPSHOT-build-198-windows.exe

...which I believe is the latest version ?

C) Also my program list in Control Panel only shows 64 bit Java, so I don't
believe I have 32 bit Java.

D) I run bittorrent downloads all the time with no problems, so my service
provider does not seem to block.

so I'm still stumped as to what to do now.......

Thanks

CJ

Dear user,

to your problems I can note the following:

1. Many users are able to download maps either a single region either the whole
set with the use of uTorrent as well as BitTorrent. The problem must be in your
side. Possibly your provider blocks torrent traffic or you have a firewall
problem. I can’t do much for you in that case.

2. Concerning Osm2garmin, version 1.0 is not working anymore because of changes
in planet.openstreetmap.org data structure. The change is caused by license
transition taking place starting from 1-st of April and not finished yet. You
have to uninstall your version of the software and install the current version
from osm2garmin.googlecode.com. In addition, the software running on 64-bit
system with 64-bit Java (your case) has to be started with parameters
-J-XX:PermSize=64M -J-XX:MaxPermSize=256m as mentioned in my reply to the post
you are pointing to. If you reinstall the software to the newest version, the
parameters should be updated accordingly to your needs by the installer. The
only condition is to run the installer with the same virtual machine you are
using for processing. If you have installed both 32-bit and 64-bit Java, the
easiest way how to meet the condition is to uninstall 32-bit Java BEFORE
running the installer of the new version of Osm2garmin.

One more remark: If your provider is blocking bittorrent traffic, you will not
be able to use Osm2garmin as well. Starting from approx. 15-th of April, HTTP
method of download does not work anymore with Osm2garmin because of the license
transition. The problem is that Osmosis can’t handle transition update files
instantly.

Subject: Re: maps.torrent

I'm having no luck getting access to the OSM data at all. I've been working at
this for many days. Very frustrating.

I've tried both methods with no success.

METHOD 1 - Torrents
I've used 2 different torrent prgrams (uTorrent and BitTyrant) with the same
result. The download stops after a few minutes. Perhaps the issue is with the
web seed server. ALL other torrents I test work fine.

METHOD 2 - OSM2Garmin Software

Product Version: OpenStreetMap Garmin Maps Generator 1.0

Java: 1.6.0_15; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 14.1-b02

System: Windows 7 version 6.1 running on amd64; Cp1252; en_CA (osm2garmin)

I have the same problem as described here:

http://groups.google.com/group/osm2garmin-devel/browse_thread/thread/56a8734d539
1a87a/d8db3c3883dca6a1?show_docid=d8db3c3883dca6a1

My results:

Planet file processing - Completed

Region file processing - Contours Completed

Overall progress goes up to about 50% then jumps back to 25% and sticks/hangs
there.

I've tried working with the large batchs of img files that did download...
which took about a week download the DEM! (and then after having to use
GMapTool to combine them all together), but they are not viewable in my GPS. I
assume because the "Overall processing" never completes.

Wouldn't it make it easier for people to access this data by making the 12
complete region img files for the planet all available by torrent seeded by the
seed method instead of thru web seeding ?

Thanks

CJ

Dear user,

the webseed addresses are hard-wired in each torrent. You do not put any
address to your client. You only need to have BitTornado-webseed capable client
and to enable webseed feature of the client. Please refer to the manual of your
client to find out more details.

Dear Mr Mantlik

Thank you very much for your reply email.
Can you please tell me the address to use for the webseed?

It does not appear when I load the torrent, so I am guessing that I have to
enter it manually?

Thanks

Dear user,

there is permanently one seeder available for this torrent until new updated
version will be published. In addition, the torrent is backed up with webseed
(BitTornado protocol). If your torrent client is webseed-capable (most current
clients are), you should achieve at least slow permanent download.

Please note that our server is hidden behind a slow line and download of all
maps can take very long time.

As an alternative, you can consider to try my new Osm2garmin software capable
to download original OpenStreetMaps database (full planet), compute SRTM
contours from the 3 arcSec SRTM database and compile the garmin maps for you.
You can find more information at http://osm2garmin.googlecode.com . Current
maps published at osm.blog.mantlik.cz are created with the use of this software
with Osm2garmin default settings.

Hi
Are there any seeders for the maps torrent (2012-04-20) version?

I've had it open for days but no seeders appear.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Sorry for delay, I was out of my office last week.

Could you please locate and submit here or preferably to the Issue 72 file
named report.log in your working directory?
