Deleting imported points from a combined polygon+point file before exporting #697

Open davidaredlist opened 1 year ago

Hi, I have just started using geojson to map species distribution ranges.

I have imported point data (via a .csv file) and then drawn polygons around the points.

I want to export JUST the polygon data as a shapefile (deleting or discarding the imported point data). Is that possible, please? Is there a quick way to do it rather than manually clicking on each point and deleting it?

e.g. image

Many thanks

In essence this is a request for bringing in two "working datasets" simultaneously so they can be worked on individually, OR you're asking for a way to bring in a reference dataset for display only.

The former is a big lift and would add a lot of new complexity and UI (not something we are likely to add), the latter might be possible under the same concept as adding a tile layer. (e.g. import reference data, which could be displayed on the map using some default style that differentiates it from the base style and the working dataset)

Hi Chris,

The second option (bring in a reference dataset for display only) would work well I think. In most cases, we require a polygon map (though poly+points are acceptable, and points only for some taxonomic groups). One issue is that we do not always have permission to publish point data, so our Red List assessors are not keen to even send the point data to us.

But easiest for us is to be able to separate point data from polygon data, so being able to view the points as a reference layer only would work.

Best wishes,

Another thought here: The two options described above both seem too complex for geojson.io and not something we are likely to build/support. We have another issue for showing geometry types in the table view (#746) and I think being able to select all of the point features in the table and delete them might serve your needs better.

Yes, that would work.
