Introduction

Mapbox Feedback is a division inside Mapbox that processes feedback sent by customers using our maps, search and navigation products. It is responsible for acquiring, processing and delivering high quality location-oriented data based on feedback as well as improving navigation/search experience by defining software related issues.

There are several ways to send feedback:

The above allows users to report missing roads or incorrect road features, POIs and addresses or generate a request to update an existing data.

All of the reports are reviewed by the Mapbox Feedback team, verified with ground-truth sources, validated and used to make updates to key datasets

Geographical Scope

The goal of the Mapbox Feedback team is to improve data on Mapbox maps in priority regions. We are mainly focused on Europe, North America, Australia and Singapore.

Types of Activity

Here is list of features we commonly focus on:

Hashtags

Current practice is to use the #mapbox_feedback hashtag on edits and notes. We are using this hashtag to indicate that the changeset was submitted by the editor of the Mapbox Feedback team.

Our past tags #mapbox_contribute, #mbx_uk_editing

Editing Team

All members of the Feedback team went through the onboarding process before starting editing on OpenStreetMap and are familiar with the principles of editing. All team members can be found here: link

Timeframe

This is an ongoing project. This project is going to be active on a constant basis so there are not any time borders.

Sources

For OpenStreetMap edits we use sources that are integrated in the OpenStreetMap tool:

In addition to these sources we also use information and details (e.g. photos) that were originally attached to the submitted feedback. If we can’t find an ODbL compliant source to do the OSM improvement we share a note to the community on the map directly.

Non-standard tools and data sources

Our internal tool displays all feedback from users in an appropriate way and allows us to process it and make edits on OpenStreetMap if necessary. In case of a need to improve the map, the easiest way to do that is to reach out to our team via Mapbox Contribute.

Results

The results will be displayed as the overall amount of changesets made by our team in OpenStreetMap in the /mapping repository.

Contact

We welcome feedback from local mappers as local knowledge always prevails. If you have any questions about a specific edit done by the Mapbox Feedback team or want to suggest some improvements in the editing process you can contact osm-edit-escalations@mapbox.com or post a comment in a changeset.
