Looks like this repo is not maintained, although it is referenced at the official Mapbox site.

Although it's ISC license, can we expect some commitment from Mapbox team regarding this package?

I left Mapbox almost two years ago, I am not the person to ask.

I had the same question. This repo is directly referred to in the official mapbox documentation

I'll try to drop a mail to mapbox to ask them if they have an official replacement and if they are planning to update their documentation.

Frankly I don't know. But it seems that your question relates to the other package I pointed out. You're better off asking your question there directly
