I'm trying to use Map Series Extension to make a Map Book using States boundaries as grid. The problem is that I want the legend on each map. Since States shape differ from one another, the legend is on top of some of my maps. Is there any way to work around and have the legend placed at the right place according to the shape of the state? #78

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.add legend to the layout view
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
A Map of each state with a legend on it (each map)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system
ArcView 9.3 Not sure of which mapbook version

Please provide any additional information below.

There is no automated method to move the legend around. With this kind of
series I
put the legend box outside the data frame, there's some loss of map real estate
but
it's the only solution I've thought of.

A partial solution would be to make each state's legend in a seperate Annotation
Group, and then turn it on and the rest off prior to printing/exporting each
one. It
means you can't bulk print but is still significantly less work than a seperate
mxd
for each map.

Why don't you just make a title block (outside the data frame) and put the
legend
there? The data frame doesn't have to cover the entire page.
