How to create Mask for OpenSFM reconstruction? #551

Please recommend steps to create Masks and use for reconstruction process? Any specific tools used to mask out the image?

I had to dig for a while to find out how to add the masks, I couldn't find it in the documentation. Here's the orginal pull request that added masking: https://github.com/mapillary/OpenSfM/pull/132 Also check out the berlin dataset, which shows an example of where masks are: https://github.com/mapillary/OpenSfM/tree/master/data/berlin

What you have to do:

Create a "masks" folder next to your "images" folder
If you want to have a mask for an image, open that image (I used Gimp), paint over the things you want to mask out in black and set everything else to white.
Save that image under the same name as the input image, but in "masks", and add .png to the end of the file name. This means your file name will have two file endings (.jpg.png or .png.png).
