Question: Are the national map pop-up supposed to list the state a county was a part of at that time, or the state they are a part of now? (I think the former option is better.)
On the individual state pages, the pop-ups just show the county name, but not the state name (they are not needed). On the national maps, the pop-ups show the county name (at the time of the map) AND the state name (as it is currently, not in 1790s/1800s). This confusing in states like VA, from which states like KY and WV are later carved out.
Ex. National Map for 1st Congress: Currently counties that were part of VA in 1788-1789 show up as “Harrison, WV” or “Madison, KY” instead of listing the state as VA.
To fix so that they reflect the state at the time:
[ ] Change all KY counties to VA during VA1 and VA2
[ ] Change all WV counties to say VA in all 19 elections
