This dialog, when editing tags, also feel inconsistent:
(1) Pressing enter from this input box will accept the key as a new entry. (2) Pressing enter from this input box does nothing.
Hi @govvin thanks as always for your well-documented issues.
I agree with you that there is much more opportunity here. (See also comments here). We would love to make the mobile experience better for MapRoulette mappers, but we haven't been able to give this priority with our limited resources.
That is not to say that we will not ever spend time on it, and like with every issue reported, we will bring it to the team and consider it.
One idea perhaps is to isolate a few small things that would meaningfully improve the experience that developers new to MapRoulette could work on?
I acknowledge that the challenge of the MR project, but I believe that the core objective of MR is not really editing, but creating/managing micro-tasking challenges and projects.
Perhaps, (and possibly not the easiest) is to make editing convenient for other (awesome!) mobile apps to work with MR? That way, MR gets to focus on what it's really about, but embrace mobile contributors, who are probably the majority of the casual OSM contributor nowadays.
I know that Vespucci has some of that capabilities, but they don't have as many users as StreetComplete, Everydoor, or Mapcomplete.
Having integrations with other apps would be a good option, and we have the API to support it, but we also see other mobile apps take their own approaches to tasks and challenges (StreetComplete, GoMap!!).
I don't know if there's a great solution here short of getting funding for a mobile developer / team to create a great mobile experience for MapRoulette.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. While it's possible to toggle the relevant dialog for the interaction buttons, to show the map, would it be possible to optimize their layout further to improve the contributors' experience on mobile devices? (Sorry, I'm not sure if using the proper terms.)
Describe the solution you'd like Currently, we have this toolbar at the bottom of the page on mobile browsers:
The toolbar, and the dialog/interaction takes up more than half of my phone screen, tho you can toggle the dialog. Maybe three states are possible, with a more compact toolbar/dialog that allow users to see more of the map and the feature they're trying to fix/review?
Also, the transition from task completion to the next task dialog, this dialog box feels visually jarring and inconsistent, which gives the app a sense of incompleteness. :
Additional context The MapRoulette platform performs quite well on the desktop, but maybe we're missing an opportunity to make it more convenient/inviting by improving the user-experience of people who are keen to improve OpenStreetMap, but are on mobile devices.
