Develop a MaptimeABQ outreach/recruitment plan

Separate from preparing for our kickoff event at National Day of Civic Hacking, we need to start recruiting people to join MaptimeABQ more generally.

Places/Groups to recruit

• NMDevs slack group
• UNM geography department
• I bet recruiting via AIGA could result in a few designers who want to cross-over.
• What else? @Smallmelo, you know more about this I suspect.

  Where to send people

  1. Our Facebook Group should be our main target, since we don't have funding for Meetup. I went for a Group rather than a Page because that seems to work well for ABQWebGeeks and other user groups I've seen locally.
  2. We might want a MailChimp (or similar) list for non-FB users, or even a Google Group, maybe with someway of automating cross-posting to FB.
  3. Slack? Maptime's national slack group allows each chapter to have a channel, but I think it's intended more for internal discussions among chapter organizers. For discussion among participants, we could start our own Slack group, or just make a channel in one of the existing groups: NM Devs, or Code for ABQ, or ABQWebGeeks. Not sure what the best approach is... I'm weary of creating more groups, but also don't necessarily want to drive beginners or non-tech people towards a group like NM Devs.

Additional Places to Recruit

• Once we have them, I'll post flyers at CNM. I'm taking a class there this summer.
• I'll announce the first event at the NMGIC conference or through the NMGIC listserv
• I'll "represent" Maptime ABQ at the Community Asset Mapping workshop on Wednesday 4/20 (it'd be great if we had flyers/business cards ready to go!)
