@bethschechter I'll need access to the new site. Did users get transferred over?
I use github to manage another wordpress site and I haven't found the workflow to be really intuitive. The problem is that wordpress stores posts and pages content in sql which can be backed up, but as I understand, they're stored as single SQL files, so, as far as I understand you cannot easily restore a single post in wordpress via git (if I am wrong, please correct me!).
Also, be sure to include wp-config.php in .gitignore because it contains sensitive information (user/pass for your databases, for example).
EDIT/tl;dr: although it may not be ideal, we could store the SQL backups in git.
@skorasaurus you're totally right. I used to work in Drupal and we had the same issues. It's a pain in the arse to keep it all tidy but doable. Good point about the .gitignore. We need to also consider the files folder.
Hi, added users:
Will Rafa Camille Alan Lyzi Alyssa Chris Jacques
who am I missing? thanks for starting this github with to-dos SO HELPFUL!
to clarify, added users to maptime.io
The wordpress site has now been deprecated. We are moving everything to Jekyll on maptime.github.io, and will soon redirect maptime.io there. Tracked at https://github.com/maptime/maptime/issues/18 plus a gazillion other issues.
@bethschechter and @geografa need to work together on this, I think.
