Using alternative host shield? #1

Is there any reason that a usb host shield from another manufacturer wouldnt work with the WVR? I should have snagged the backpack from kickstarter and have not been able to get one since they were released but have some host shield board for arduino that I am hoping might work for the same purpose?

It would probably work, but might require some custom code on the WVR side. Can you link to some info on the product? (Also FYI I was able to get some ATSAMD21’s so I have a few USB backpacks if you want to order one from me that’s also an option)

That's ok! Just wanted to make sure you were pinged. I don't know much about that board, or about the MAXIM chip it uses. It looks like this could work with WVR. You would have to set up an SPI peripheral in code on WVR, and send the midi data byte-by-byte from the SPI peripheral to the midi parser. I could support you through it, and if you have some experience with ESP32 programming it may not be tooooo hard.

I would be down to take a crack at programming the SPI interface in code and do have experience with the ESP. I have some time off for the holidays next week and could get started on it then. If I can still order the backpack to use with a current project I am working on though I would love to snag one! I appreciate all of your help!
