When I open the app on my HTC Hero (Sprint):
1. If I leave it on the Friends tab I get: "The application Foursquare (process
com.joelapenna.foursquared) as stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
2. If I quickly switch to the Places tab I get: ""Foursquare server request
timed out"

I have the same issue. When I launch the application it reboots my phone
completely. Under my older version of
the firmware and software it worked fine. I am currently using the newest
version released (2.27.651.5).

While the app is still opening, if I quickly switch to the Places tab, it does
work. It's the only way I've ever gotten
it to work. Once open, it's fine. I can even switch to the friends tab after
that. I'm using a Sprint-marked HTC
Hero. Firmware 1.5 baseband version 1.04.01.09.21

This should be fixed. Was specific to android 1.5. For some reason, that api
level couldn't render the 'no friends' layout.xml file. It would cause a stack
overflow exception during layout. Modified the layout by placing the two
buttons vertically instead of horizontally fixed it (sigh).

This does not appear to be fixed... I have the latest version Android
(gingerbread) and the latest Foursquare download. I continue to get the same
"The application Foursquare (process com.joelapenna.foursquared) as stopped
unexpectedly. Please try again." and also "Foursquare server request timed out"

I also have the same issue in my HTC Desire. When opening the friends tab I get
the error message. Running the latest versions of Android and Foursquare.

I have fixed the issue in my HTC Desire. Simply logged out from Foursquare and
logged in again! :)
To be honest I am surprised that I didn´t try that before...

hope this helps anyone else.

I am having this same issue upon trying to log in to the application (using my
existing foursquare account credentials). I've tried clearing the cache data
for the application , removing it completely then reinstalling it but issue
persists.

I have similar problem:

Alert message: The application Foursquare (process com.joelapenna.foursquared)
has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I can see my friends list but when I scroll even a bit, it crashes. It doesn't
make a difference if I tap the "Check in" button, then I can check in somewhere
and then I return to friends list and try to scroll, it crashes anyway.

Foursquare app version: 2013.03.14
My using Android 2.10.110.8, HTC Sence version 3.0 on my HTC Desire S.
