Ergast API depreciation #299

Describe the bug Ergast API noticing depreciation at the end of this year. The API will be shutdown.

Ah good call! We got one year left ( end of 2024 is next year :P ). I need to find a alternative :(

For the schedule I can use the f1 calendar. So that isn't a problem, but the results, that will be an issue

Could the ESPN APIs be used as an eventual replacement? They're used for the TeamTracker integration.

Yes, but than I need to host a service to provide the data to the cards. I'm not going to pay for that :p

The next race is in just 5 days. Is there a chance that this beautiful card will come back to life, or is there no more hope though?

What about hosting json in a github project. And update it by crawling f1 official webpage? There are already some projects doing this. Maybe in a github action to update data.

Yes that's one of the options, but I don't have the time to maintain that. So if it fails there will be a lot of sad f1 fans.

So that's a last resort basically

The countdown card works for at least this weekend's race

I think the API just needs to update each of the /current web hooks, once this happens and /current is transitioned to 2024 I would imagine they would all switch.

Current for standings is still showing 2023 https://ergast.com/api/f1/current/driverStandings

btw about the openf1 roadmap https://openf1.org/#roadmap image if they are planning to introduce that short term, then this is way before ergast stops and there will be time to migrate

Works on the desktop but on the companion app it still says "Season is over" for me

Maybe you can make a free version thats "hard to install/manual" And a premium thats easy to install and has premium customizing features orsomething that covers the cost
