Swimlanes in Board view #473

Open zynfly opened 1 year ago

What would you like to be added?

can add a horizontal separation above the swimlane and modify the 'status' to a swimlane or something else.

Why is this needed?

This allows you to build a user story map and plan for release.

I think swimlanes would be an interesting addition to the Board view 👍

This would be very useful!

I would love to see swimlane for the same reason - maybe a user story map, also sometimes just to see the different items for different areas. How hard or complex is this, I have no idea but would like to help with smaller tasks if I can.

@jonathanmfe thanks for identifying the precise term and your interest in helping this out. By searching swimlane I could only find a few examples.

Can you elaborate more on the proposed workflow, together with notes, frontmatters and Projects? I skimmed through several articles, and find the panel is usually comprehensive and the user actions are already divided into different levels. Should each block be an actual note? I'm still can only getting a rough sketch. Any efforts are greatly appreciated!

It should be possible to define which of the properties (in the frontmatter) should drive the swimlanes. Just as it is now possible to indicate which one to use to define the status of a card. for example if I have a property called “difficulty” in each of my notes, I can indicate that I want the swimlanes to be based on that. It should also be possible to sort the swimlanes alphabetically.

Hi,

I agree - if we could pick a property like we do for status that would be great.

An additional option would be to base of subfolders.

The ability to change the criteria that is used for the swimlanes is really useful and would make this better than some other tools.

For example - it may be useful to sometimes have each swimlane present a particular stream of work (which could be indicated by a tag or by a sub-folder). But the sometimes it's useful to switch to a different view when sense checking or planning. Maybe to change to see by priority or difficulty. Or to look at by team member - for example.

So if we could have swimlanes setup based on a field - like we can do to the status columns right now, that would be awesome. Being able to choose different fields, like we can for columns right now would be an important part of this.

Potentially having by subfolders as well could be useful - for example where someone wants to organise cards based on different eipcs or work streams

I just found the subgroup feature of Notion board. Is that an expecting implementation of this post? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_efKZce3eDY&t=385s

The notion subgroup feature is awesome. Could projects do this based on the same logic it uses for the main vertical groups? I.e. sub-folders or tags?

This feature is very much awaited.
