The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS) confirms the proposed currency code “XCG” for the new currency that will be introduced in the countries Curaçao and Sint Maarten, i.e. the Caribbean guilder, which will replace the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG). The numeric code 532 will remain unchanged.
The Caribbean guilder and the Netherlands Antillean guilder banknotes and coins will for cash transactions purposes circulate concurrently for 3 months from date of introduction of the Caribbean guilder. The ANG will thus expire as a legal tender by July 1, 2025. The Netherlands Antillean guilder banknotes and coins can be exchanged via the commercial banks until March 31, 2026, and until March 31, 2055, at the CBCS. Electronic/digital payments in ANG will not be accepted effective March 31, 2025.
Furthermore, the exchange rate between the Caribbean guilder (XCG) and the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG) will be 1:1. The Caribbean guilder will have two (2) minor units to indicate the cents.
Effective from 31st March 2025, the following change will be made to “List three: Codes for historic denominations of currencies and funds”:
